# Dashboard

## Overview

The **Dashboard** is the first screen you land on after logging into Herd. It brings your organization's training progress, security posture, and upcoming activity together in one place, with **HerdAI** ready at the top to help you take action.

The Dashboard is a **customizable widget grid**: every card is a widget you can move, resize, combine, hide, or add back. Out of the box, wide widgets (HerdAI, Activity/Progress) form a main area with at-a-glance stat widgets in a right-hand rail — but the arrangement is yours to change with the **Customize** button in the top-right.

***

## HerdAI

At the top of the default layout you'll find **HerdAI** — your AI teammate for trainings, phishing sims, and risk insights.

Type a request into the prompt box and Herd takes you straight into a HerdAI conversation to do the work. The prompt cycles through example ideas like building a training on phishing, looking up a user's risk score, or summarizing this quarter's compliance progress.

For common tasks, use the one-click action chips below the prompt:

* **Weekly Recap** — a short summary of what happened on the platform in the last 7 days.
* **Create Training** — start a guided flow to generate a new training.
* **Create Phishing Sim** — set up a new phishing simulation by audience, lure, and send time.
* **Nudge Trainings** — draft a reminder for users who haven't finished their trainings.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can attach files to a HerdAI request directly from the Dashboard prompt — useful when you want HerdAI to work from an existing document.
{% endhint %}

## Activity / Progress

**Activity** and **Progress** ship combined into a single tabbed widget — switch between them with the tabs at the top of the card. (They're separate widgets under the hood, so you can split them into two cards in Customize mode if you prefer.)

### Activity

The **Activity** tab shows a live stream of what's happening across your organization — training completions, phishing results, and security events. Use the inline filters to **search** or narrow the feed by category so you can focus on the events that matter.

### Progress

The **Progress** tab is where you track training completion. Toggle between four views:

* **Teams** — completion broken down by group, sourced from your connected directory (Okta, Google, Azure, or Slack).
* **Users** — completion per person, ranked and linked to each user's profile.
* **Trainings** — completion per training, with totals for assigned, completed, in progress, and not started.
* **Tracks** — your training tracks and how many users are assigned to each.

Each view includes a **sort** control (for example, Completion %, Name, or Most Assigned), and progress bars use a consistent color key: **green** for completed, **blue** for in progress, and **gray** for not started. Selecting a user, training, or track takes you to its detailed results page.

## The widget catalog

These are the widgets you can place on your Dashboard (add any you don't see via **Customize → Add widget**):

* **Completion Rate** — your overall training completion percentage.
* **In Progress** — training assignments currently underway, with a bell button to nudge those users.
* **Not Started** — assignments not yet started, with the same one-click nudge.
* **Human Risk Score** — your organization-level human risk score with its trend over time (see below).
* **Leaderboard** — your top performers by points (renders as the **Top Performers** card).
* **Activity Heatmap** — a visual heatmap of daily activity over recent weeks.
* **HerdAI** — the AI prompt widget described above.
* **Activity** and **Progress** — the tabbed pair described above.
* **Scheduled** — upcoming trainings and campaign launches (renders as the **Upcoming** card).
* **AI Recommendations** — AI-suggested trainings to assign, based on your organization's profile (see below).
* **Team Report** — your team's training progress, outstanding and overdue items. Only available to managers with direct reports.

Some widgets hide themselves from the Dashboard when they have nothing to show (for example, Human Risk Score before a score exists, or Scheduled when nothing is coming up). In Customize mode each of these shows a toggle pill — like **Hidden if no scheduled events** — so you can control that behavior.

### Human Risk Score

The **Human Risk Score** widget (opt-in — add it via **Customize → Add widget**) shows your organization-level human risk score:

* A **score out of 100** — **lower is better** — with a risk-band badge (**Low**, **Medium**, **High**, or **Critical risk**).
* A **trend chart** with **Weekly** / **Monthly** cadence tabs, and a delta showing whether risk rose or fell since the previous period.
* A coverage caption — how many of your people have been assessed. Scores update nightly.

The score is computed from real signals: phishing simulation results, mandatory-training completion (on time, late, or overdue), security alerts, access & identity events, and AI usage. Per-user scores and drivers live on each user's profile in the [Users area](/herd-security-docs/users/users.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
The numeric org risk score and its trend are part of the **Enterprise plan**. On other plans the widget shows your qualitative risk band with an **Upgrade to unlock** prompt.
{% endhint %}

### Scheduled

When you have anything coming up, the **Upcoming** card lists scheduled trainings, simulations, and reminders. A **time range** selector in the card header switches between **Next 7 days**, **Next 14 days** (the default), **Next 30 days**, **Next 90 days**, and **All upcoming** — your choice is remembered. Items are grouped into **Scheduled** and **Escalations**, each labeled by type (Training, Phishing, Smishing, Compliance, or Reminder) with a badge showing when it fires — for example, "Today," "Tomorrow," or "In 5 days." Ongoing campaigns appear at their predicted next send ("Ongoing · next send"), and selecting any item takes you to the relevant campaign or training.

### AI Recommendations

The **AI Recommendations** widget suggests trainings for your organization based on your technology stack and completed-training history. Click **Generate recommendations** to run the analysis — each suggestion shows the training, a priority badge (**High**, **Medium**, or **Low priority**), a **% match** relevance score, the AI's reasoning, and the matching tags. **Accept** a recommendation to open the training's content for review, or **Dismiss** it. Generating, accepting, and dismissing require the **Training Edit** permission.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you customized your dashboard before this widget shipped, it's added **hidden** — enable it via **Customize → Add widget**.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Before sending nudges, Herd confirms the action and respects your organization's business-hours settings so reminders go out at the right time.
{% endhint %}

## What's new (release announcements)

Herd announces product releases in-app. On the Dashboard, a **What's new** pill sits in the bottom-right corner, with a badge counting the releases you haven't looked at yet. Click it to expand the panel: each release (**Herd 5.35**, etc.) is a collapsible entry with its date and a bulleted list of customer-facing highlights, newest first, with a **New** chip on anything you haven't seen.

Read state is per person — you catching up doesn't hide the notes from your colleagues. Minimize the panel to collapse it back to the pill, or close it with the **✕** to dismiss it until the next release ships. While the **Get Started** checklist is active, What's new stays out of the way — one call to action at a time.

***

## The Get Started checklist

While you're setting up a new organization, a **Get Started** checklist helps you through the essentials: reviewing your company context, connecting Slack or Teams, connecting your team directory, assigning your first training, and launching a phishing simulation. Steps check themselves off automatically as you complete the real actions (you can also tick them manually).

It appears on the Dashboard as a card plus a floating **Get Started** pill with a progress badge; minimize it to get it out of the way, or dismiss it entirely once you're up and running. It disappears on its own when every step is complete.

## Customizing your Dashboard

Select **Customize** in the top-right to enter edit mode. Everything happens right on the grid:

* **Move** — drag any tile where you want it (or focus a tile and use the arrow keys). Tiles settle upward to close gaps.
* **Resize** — drag the handle in a tile's bottom-right corner to change its size in grid steps.
* **Combine** — drag one tile **onto** another and drop when the **Combine** pill appears to merge them into a single tabbed widget (up to four widgets per group). Compact stat widgets — like Completion Rate, In Progress, and Not Started — combine into a rotating **slideshow** with dot navigation instead of tabs.
* **Split** — on a combined tile, use the split-out control on any member to pop it back out as its own card.
* **Hide** — click a tile's **✕** to remove it from your layout; it goes back to the Add widget drawer.
* **Add widget** — opens a drawer listing every widget not currently on your Dashboard, each with a one-line description and an **Add** button.

When you're happy, click **Save layout**; **Cancel** discards your edits.

### Reset and presets

The **Reset to** menu in the edit toolbar loads a starting point into the editor (nothing applies until you save):

* **Org default** — drop your personal layout and inherit your organization's default.
* **Legacy layout** — the classic shipped arrangement.
* **Modern layout** — an alternative arrangement that leans on combined widgets.

### Org default dashboards (admins)

Admins get a scope toggle in the edit toolbar: **My view** edits your personal layout, while **Org default** edits the dashboard that everyone in the organization inherits. In org scope the save button becomes **Save org default**, and the preset menu becomes **Load preset**.

The precedence is simple: a user's own saved layout always wins; users who haven't customized see the org default; and if no org default exists, Herd's built-in layout applies. A user can return to the org default at any time via **Reset to → Org default**.

## You're ready to go

With the Dashboard arranged the way you like it, you've got a single view into how your organization is progressing, where the risk is, and what's coming next — plus HerdAI on hand to help you act on it.
